A STUDY FOR AN EMPTY COLOR
SOUND PERFORMANCE
APPROX.15MIN
2019 (SCORED IN 2021)

So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. - 2 Corinthians 4:18

After naming the color that appears when there is no input signal on the video output device as 'No Signal Blue,' I gathered my thoughts around the color and transformed them into a sound performance. Realizing that my long-standing interest in finding a new form of art practice is closely related to philosophical concepts dealt with in the field of music, I approached the methodology through sound. In particular, A Study for an Empty Color was constructed as an opportunity to sense the thoughts around the phenomenal and the temporal, and to establish a conceptual space. The performance invites audiences to explore these concepts through 'No Signal Blue'—the color of light itself and an empty space without limits—and the sound that deconstructs as soon as it is revealed, yet nevertheless exists precisely.

The live performance of A Study for an Empty Color should not be documented in any form. This performance, created in 2019, was scored in 2021 after two performances.
