NOW LIVE
PERFORMANCE
PART 1 - 46HR 32MIN, PART 2 - 120HR
2020

Now Live is a situation-based performance planned in early 2020, when life suddenly became unpredictable due to Covid-19. The work centers around 'live streaming,' a tool whose role was emphasized for real-time and on-site mediation amidst the pandemic. It also explores the phenomenon of ordinary spaces transforming into what can be considered as heterotopias, due to their inaccessibility resulting from the pandemic restrictions. The intention behind this work was to serve as a platform that reexamines the senses of transmitting and viewing information, as well as the concept of open and closed spaces, which can be either physical or conceptual.

The first part of the performance was live-streamed via a surveillance camera with weak security for 46 hours and 32 minutes, starting at 1:12 pm on July 20, 2020. The entire process, from the installation to the deinstallation of the space, was broadcast as it happened. Those who could potentially access the surveillance camera through hacking were considered the sole audience.

The second part of the performance was an online live stream through a website (www.nowlive.space), which lasted for 120 hours, starting at 7 am on September 9, 2020. During this phase, a simulated real-time transmission was created by editing and reproducing footage captured during part 1 of the performance. The footage was captured using 360-degree cameras positioned at three points within the space. This allowed the audience to access the website and explore the surroundings by adjusting the camera's perspective themselves. The three cameras showcase several objects, including pieces of mirror, a clock, a rotating fan, and a piece of swaying fabric due to the airflow caused by the fan. These objects seem to serve as clues to the space, but at the same time, they also serve as devices that make this non-visitable space more ambiguous. All that is provided is a low-quality, unstable live streaming situation.
